Last weeks Poll Question

Survey results: Just wanted to announce that the majority of you passed the test. When you think of a carbonated beverage, the correct answer is "Soda". Pop is not the right answer-that's what you get in elementary school from the school bully. Coke is not a Mormon drink and carbonated beverage is too long to say. Congratulations for getting the right answer.

One-year shots x2

We took Kiera and Danthony for their 1-year well-baby checks yesterday. Complete with immunizations and blood-draws for both. Since we have no record of any of Danthony's past immunizations they had to assume they hadn't been given so he got extra shots. I'm sure you can all imagine how much fun that was!

Christmas 2007

This was our first ever only-Nelson-family-Christmas. Since was had it with neither Steve or my families. I must say, it was different to be on the Santa end of things. It was great.

We had Kiera and Danthony do a nativity on Christmas eve which was highly entertaining (and required a lot of directing). Christmas day was wonderful. Being the horrible parents that we are, we didn't get anything at all for Kiera or Danthony. They each got 2 gifts from 2 various people, but nothing from us. We don't believe in giving them gifts when they have no idea what is going on! I know, I know-- horrible parents.
Lastly, I would like to blog a HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO STEVE!!!!!!!! For all who don't know, Steve's birthday is on Christmas eve. As you can imagine, his birthday has been overlooked all his life and this year was no exception. Thanks to my sister Breanna's babysitting on Christmas eve night (what a wonderful sister!) we were able to go out to dinner, but that's all.
PS, there are more pictures under our picasa link on the right if you have a desire to see them.

PS- I have 3 dark purple toenails from running my half marathon. (I'll spare you from seeing pictures). Battle wounds to show off my bravery.

Low sodium food --because I care about your heart

I was a bit late getting my christmas goodies out to my neighbors and friends this year due to being in Utah. Most of my friends have already deserted Loma Linda to go home for Christmas. But those who were fortunate enough to still be around today got to the enjoy the burnt-no-added-sodium orange rolls I made with the help of 2 sick babies clinging to my legs whining. Lucky for them. I'm sure they can sleep better tonight knowing that their heart is a little better off since there was no added salt in the burnt rolls.
It is amazing what 2 teaspoons of salt can do for a batch of rolls!
Too bad you all don't get to sample the 16 lbs turkey I overcooked tonight as well. Nasty.
I don't know why I was so out of my groove today. Oh well, at least I had something to blog about right?

Kiera and Danthony no longer VL

Above is the cutest video ever. Watch carefully for Kiera's gag after she and Danthony do a open-mouth kiss on the mouth/nose.

They kiss all the time-- I used to try to stop/prevent it, but it is impossible. No wonder they always get eachother's illnesses!

We've returned from Utah!

We couldn't return to California until we ate at Cafe Rio, visited BYU, got our dose of snow, and went to Cambrie's brother's wedding. Poor guy got the stomach flu the day of and was puking his guts out at least up through the reception--I have no idea if he got better after that. Of course, if any of you have been following our family's health status, thanks to Kiera and D'Anthony, they both probably made his day just as memorable by passing on the sickness to him.

I didn't realize that put Kiera in a costume today, but apparently she looked "exactly" like Cindy-lou Who (well, at least 10 different people at church told me so).

I personally think Kiera is a little more cute.

BECHA DIDN'T CATCH THIS MOMENT WHILE YOU WERE WATCHING THE GAME--
I had to add this picture in behalf of Steve and his love of football. I'm sure he would post it if he had the time. Just goes to show that BYU is the "Lord's University".

My half Marathon (my first one)

First of all, thanks/sorry to Megan whose blog I stole this picture from.
The "marathon mommas" of our ward plus a few other friends (about 10 total) all trained this race together and we ran it today in beautiful Irvine california. It was my first big race (I know, I know-- many of you are running marathons-- my half is nothing).
I ran pretty slow, but I didn't walk. 2 hours 20 minutes.
It was fun. My goal is to do another in february and get under 2 hours. I'll leave the full-marathon running to you crazy people.

Little miss muffett….
Last night I slept on the floor next to Kiera’s crib since she was vomiting/dry heaving every 5-20 minutes. All night long I kept thinking/dreaming about spiders. I once heard a statistic that the average person eats 8 spiders a year while sleeping. I kept remembering when I was about 8 years old living in England and sleeping on the floor one night. A HUGE daddy long leg spider ran up my chest and across my face. I get the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it! Anyway, after night full of cleaning up vomit, rotating towels through Kiera’s crib in an attempt to keep it dry, sleeping on the hard floor, and dreaming of spiders, I woke up to find a big nasty looking red spider about 2 feet from where I had been sleeping. I thought of taking a picture of it for the blog (squished of course since I wasn’t about to let it live long enough to get the camera), but I will spare myself having to look at it every time I check my blog.

DANTHONY STAYS...

I got the phone call from the county social worker this evening:
"They are giving his mom and dad 6 more months to clean up there lives",
"So we keep him for 6 more months?"
"yes-- although supposedly there is a sister interested in trying to get him, but she still hasn't even been fingerprinted so it's not very promising."
I have mixed emotions on the subject. They previously made it sound like he would be pretty much out of our care by the end of the year regardless, so that is what I had myself geared up for. But I know Kiera loves having him around, and it is great for her social skills so I am glad.

It strikes again.....

For any of you who missed out on the chance to get a really nasty version of the stomach flu from us in early november, you have a second chance: we've got the stomach flu again--complete with puking fussy babies with diarrhea and diaper rashes. Come and get it.

About us:

Steve is a first year in Loma Linda University Dental school and is therefore barely home. When he is not studying, he is being a varsity scout coach for the 14 year old boys of our ward. Kiear and I steal a few moments of his time occasionally and make him play with us, but for the most part, he studies dilligently.

I (Cambrie) and currently a mommy to our Kiera, and also to Danthony, our foster son. Caring for 2 busy babies can be a little crazy at times, but it actually makes it easier in ways to have 2 than just 1. (And if I have time to blog than it can't be THAT busy-- right?) I am also SLOWLY getting my BSN in nursing online from both Chaffey college and BYUI. I enjoy running, and plan on running a half marathon this saturday morning. I'm part of a babysitting co-op, and I enjoy inviting people over to play with us.

Kiera one year old and cute as can be. She is walking, can say "mama" and "dada" on command, as well as tell you what a fishy says. She is understanding more and more each day including blankie, outside, eat, milk, Danthony, ducky, show, baby, ball, and kisses. She has also recently learned how to do the signlanguage for "milk" and "eat" from watching her favorite "show" Baby Signing Time. Kiera is VERY attached to her blankie and is also very fond of her "baby" she got for her birthday.
Here it goes--- a blog of our own. Due to pressure from a few friends and family members, we are starting our own blog. I call it "ours" but I doubt that Steve will be posting much since he is busy busy busy studying his brains out for school, and I have a feeling Kiera won't be posting much either. Nevertheless, it is the Nelson family blog.
